WELCOME

The idea of establishing a community not for profit pirate bus service in Willoughby was born in late 2022 after two years of lobbying the state government to restore, what had become, a very dysfunctional public bus service, only resulted in the cancellation of even more services.

In late 2022 we setup a go fundme to bring back the 272 bus service . Our first"service" took the form of a charter bus to the CBD departing from outside the entrance to Willoughby Leisure Center at 8am on February 1. We had a great time and thanks to Jordyn Beazley, Elias Visontay and Tamsin Rose from the Guardian you can read about it here.

The pirate bus is making its second journey on Sunday March 19 this time as a (cancelled) M40 (aka 340). Instead of starting in Chatswood we will depart from Keary St Willoughby (outside Willoughby Public School) and the service will run all the way to Bondi Beach. We depart at 11 am and return at 1pm.

We are hopeful, but not optimistic, that our "pirate" bus service will encourage the state government to again take public bus transport seriously right across Sydney where state planning policy continues to drive a rapid rise in housing density.
